RAID 0 (or 5) using primary and secondary channels, slower true?

I read somewhere that a computer cannot read/write the secondary channel while the primary is being read/write, or some weird reason why you should not run a RAID0 (or 5) on a primary and secondary of one channel.

I have four 10gig hard drives coming, so would it be significantly faster to grab a 33mhz pci Ultra/100 controller for the other two? (pci bus has two 100base network cards, not much traffic)

also, in linux software raid, how much slower is raid5 then raid0?

Thanks for answering these three things, i appreciate this.

What you're thinking of is that a single controller cannot read and write at the same time. The two IDE controllers can read or write at the same time.

That's why it's not recommended to plug a hard drive and a cd burner on the same controller since you won't be able to read from the hard drive and write on the cd at the same time.

So what are the implications of that pertaining to RAID? In theory, the hard drives should be doing the same things at the same time (all reading or all writing)... is that true?

And also, how much slower is RAID5 than RAID0?
