Radeon9500Pro AGP8x problem

I think I know the answer to this one, but I would like confirmation as I am a complete newbie... I have just installed RedHat9 on my PC (ASUS A7V8X KT400, AMD ATHLON XP 2000+, Radeon 9500Pro AGP8x) and haven't been able to get the Graphics Card working correctly. I have downloaded and installed the fire gl drivers and ran fglrxconfig... which results in X not being able to start. Am I right in thinking that Linux currently does not support the AGP8x feature on my motherboard/graphics card? If so, is there any way around this? I was gonna inlude the X log, but I don't have access to it - Linux doesn't support my modem either so I have to do this from windows. Is there any information that you need from me in order for you help?

Also, once I get myself a modem that works, can anybody tell me whether its possible to connect to freeserve anytime from Linux? If not, what ISP (unmetered) do you recommend?

Would it help if I listed XFree86.0.log? I recall there was something about my AGP not being recognised in there.....

A quick fix is to go into your bios and change your AGP settings from 8X to 4X. It's a quick fix and should work.

Matt, what error are you receiving? as root you should be able to include /var/log/XFree86.0.log

can't guarantee that I can help, however I'm very familiar with aggravation when it comes to getting an ATI to run DRI in linux so I'm happy to help as much as I can.

In BIOS, it won't let me select anything apart from 8x. I will get back to you shortly with the XFree86.0.log. The problem is that I recorded my log as a text file and put it on a floppy, but when I booted into windows, it wouldn't read it. I have to boot into windows because thats the only way I can get onto the net.
