radeon x550

I don't know how to make radeon x550 to work... I have searched the net but haven't found anything useful. Can anyone help?
I'm using Debian Sarge. I have tried to configure the system according to the instruction at: xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.stanchina/debian/fglrx-installer.html#overview
but it didn't work. x550 is not listed as a supported card((((

In case it is hopeless , what graphic card should I buy that would work fine for X-window?

I had the same problem, To fix it need to install gcc 3.3.5, this installs a library needed by libGL

Hope this helps

Did you download the genuine ATI drivers for Linux? They can be found here.

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=300

Here are the instructions.

https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...20.8-inst.html

As far as what graphic card to purchase for compatibility with Linux I believe that any ATI or Nvidia card will work when you install their drivers. The Nvidia drivers might be a little more work to configure but both seem to work for me.

It would make a whole heckuva lot of sense to first upgrade your system from Sarge to the current Stable release, Etch. Read the Release notes. Once that's done, you'll be able to install fglrx, version 8.28.8, from the Debian repositories. It supports your card.

Trying to install the current drivers from ATI will only bring you grief.

Edit: Cheez! A 2 year old thread resurrected by a newbie. Why didn't I notice that first.

good news - you might have a real driver to use with card soon!
