Unhappy Radeon x1800 and SuSE 10.1 X Server NoGo

I recently installed SuSE 10.1 on my computer (32bit version) and when I configured X.org I get this error on starting X:
(WW) GetVBEMode Failed
. . .
Backtrace
. . .
libvbe.so
. . .
Aborting

I don't remember the exact error message.

However, on the same box I dual boot into Gentoo linux (which I am posting from) and the graphics card works perfectly. I am quite befuddled (I know the Xorg.conf file is correct since I copied the working one from gentoo into SuSE (changing the appropriate paths, etc). Video Works under VESA in SuSE.

Computer specs:

OS:
Gentoo Linux (x86_64) Graphics Work
Windows XP Pro (32bit) Graphics Work
SuSE Linux 10.1 (32bit) Graphics DON'T Work

Hardware:
AMD Athlon 64 x2 3200+
2 GiB SDRAM
Sapphire Radeon x1800 xt 512MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS 24bit
250 GiB Western Digital SATA HD (Gentoo & Windows)
20 GiB Western Digital IDE133 HD (SuSE /home)
40 GiB Maxtor HD IDE133 (SuSE /,/boot)
Plextor PX708A DVD+-RW DVD Speed (16/8/16) CD Speed (40/40/40)

Why are you copying xorg.conf files into suse? Suse should have spit out an appropriate xorg.conf all on it's own and you should 100% not have touched it.

If you have an error message using suse's xorg.conf file that it automatically creates, post that message.
