radeon kernel modules blanks console terminals.

hello. When I load the radeon module, from initscripts, the commandline, or when Xorg loads it, it makes all my consoles go blank. They are still active I can type into them then cat /dev/vcs* from X, and I see what I typed. I am using vga16fb as my framebuffer console driver, and am on PowerPC so I don't think I can use plain VGA consoles.

this is my /etc/modprobe.d/video.conf
Code:
install radeon /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install radeon modeset=1 tv=0
lspci | grep -i radeon
Code:
0000:04:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380 0x3e50 [Radeon X600]

radeon KMS (which you are enabling with modeset=1) provides it's own framebuffer device. Make sure that FRAMEBUFFER_CONSOLE and CONFIG_FB are enabled in your kernel config, but that no low-level framebuffer drivers are selected.

what about "Lowlevel video output switch controls"?. I have to use Open Firmware framebuffer support or linux never loads.

I built radeon in, and added radeon.modeset=1 to yaboot.conf. thank you, X is working properly now. But I am stuck with Open Firmware framebuffer.
dmesg | grep -i radeondrmfb
Code:
fb: conflicting fb hw usage radeondrmfb vs OFfb ATY,Aphrod - removing generic driver

fb0: radeondrmfb frame buffer device

Based on your dmesg output, as soon as the radeon kernel module kicks in, it takes over the framebuffer device from OFfb.

The radeon DRM framebuffer is unaccelerated. I have no idea if there are plans to change that, though.
