Radeon and Mandrake
How to I get my Radeon 7500 to work in mandrake 9.0. I cannot get X to load. And why cant I use Xconfigurator like in RH?

How do i fix this;
execve failed for /etc/x11/x (errno 2)
Giving up
Xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to xserver

Xconfigurator doesn't work in RedHat 8 either for some reason (at least it didn't for me)
try /etc/X11 and try editing XF86Config
EDIT: you can use "xf86config" at command line which will make a new XF86Config file for you, which you can copy to the /etc/X11 (cp /home/user/XF86Config /etc/X11) directory and then use startx.

Ok I found DrakConf works but I try every combination of monitor and Video card. But X will not work. It should if I select ATI Radeon. Shouldint it? but it doesint

I got it working now by selecting Generic - Vesa. but refresh is 50hz and is giving me a headache. is there any way to change it??

under the "Monitor" section in /etc/X11/XFConfig, change the VertRefresh rate from 50.0 - 120.0
to *.0 - 120.0 (use the highest/desired resolution that is supported by your monitor)
paste your XFConfig file here too.

The 7500 is not supported under XFree 4.21 IIRC. Try doing a search for Radeon on LQ, this has been addressed before, though I am not sure how much success people have had getting it running.
BTW bumping is discouraged on the forums as well.

I was on /. and I just saw an article that ATI has released Linux drivers for the Radeon series.
Try here. They look to have drivers for everything recent. Including the 9700!!
Edit: It seems the drivers are for 8500 and up. So you are in the same boat you were in before I am afraid (new XFree release or a commercial X)
