Radeon 9700 (what driver to use)

Radeon 9700 Pro. What distros and selection in X setup work for the card work? Being able to use 3D features on the card is highly desirable, but I'm going to have a dual boot setup for 3d gaming into XP.

Anyway, I thought I remember reading that someone got the ATI All in Wonder selection to work with it on SUSE 8x, but there have been more than 1 All in Wonder cards out there. I also read that the FireGL1 driver worked on Radeon 8500 cards for 2D AND 3D.

Ok, just wondering what other folks with a 9700 Pro are doing out there.

Thanks

Hi
i stumbled over this;
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33637266
http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthre...eadid=33641227
seems one of them uses the 8500 drivers to get 2d in X going
but no 3d yet
Well maybe you can extract more from that board ( meself
using an nvidia card can't provide much more)
good luck

Thanks. Luckily redhat supports 9700 pro cards for 2d. I looked in the XF86Config file and noticed that it was using "vesa" instead of the radeon driver.

I'll look over on that board and see what I can find. Thanks and next time I'll buy an Nvidia card so I wont have to put up with this crap. I never considered Linux when I got the 9700 Pro, and now I wish I did.
