Because the ATi driver is a closed source binary (as is the nvidia driver) you need to ask ATi this question, AFAIK the latest cards are not supported well, this is an area where nvidia has shown a much better atitude in regards to linux support, it used to be the other way around.
You need to reinstall the rpm package again with the -i switch.
Watch the messages carefully. You will need to go to 2 diff. directories and run a .sh file to make the drivers compatible with your new kernel.
Run fglrxconfig to make the new XF86Config-4 file.
Then go to /etc/X11 and edit the file XFree86Config-4 and where it says busID change it from 1:0:1 to 1:0:0 (To get rid of the no screen found problem)
(You may have to rename XF86Config-4 to XF86Config to make it work.)
Then do and init 6 to reboot your machine. This is needed.
E-mail me with more detailed problems it you can't follow what I am saying...
I just removed the busid line from the config completely.
It worked fine for me, then just restart X.
if you are in init 5 level combination of 'init q' or killing
gdm should bring X back to life.
(init 6??? mmmm too much time on a windows system.)
I have an dual athlon-mp and would like to compile the module
for the athlon-smp to work, anyone recompiled the module
for a later kernel?
Note: For RV350, R300, R350 & (possibly) RV360, R360 use file: GLX1-4.1,4.2,4.3.zip you will need alien or rpm to install them (once installed you may recompile the sources every time you recompile your kernel, sources located in /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/)
currently , all of the current ati drivers only support 3d accel , with the r200 family of chips ( radeon 9200 and below) until the insert support for the r300 family (radeon 9500 and above) we are stuck in 2d mode , errors like xfreeDRI display extension missing is normal , because dri was designed for the r200 and below family , so when it trys to load, it dont reconize the card and hiccups, however software GL should still work ( it dows on my 9500). plaeas feel free to ask aquesitons if this confuses you
I have an older radeon card ( 7000 i think, with 64 mb of ram ). Recently ( i'm not a gamer, and i have used the gfx acceleration only in some windows demo ( not a demo game ) ). Now i've tried to play with tuxracer, and it's megasloow ( 2 fps ).
Getting my 9500 going has been hell. I tried on Slack and Debian, and after i finally get the thing compiled, my computer completely freezes upon bootup everytime after that!
There are no IRQ conflicts or anything like that, so i dont know what to do? The plain "ati" driver doesnt even work either, so idk what to do now...my Geforce was easy to setup with nvidia drivers, what's up with this ATI foolishness?
mtb:
The newest XFree (4.3) has open sourced driver that work very well for the R100 (Radeon 7000, 7200). Try it.
jbstew32:
Have you tried the latest Fire GL X1 drivers from Shcneider-Digital page? They should work well, provided you have the adequate glibc+XFree pair. AFAIK if you have glibc 2.3.x + XFree < 4.2.99, you are likely to run into problems. I have glibc 2.3.x + XFree 4.3 and no problems whatsoever using the driver version 2.9.12 for XF 4.3
