Radeon 9500 pro and Modem problems
Ok, I'll start by saying that I am completely 100% new to Linux. I have a AMD Athlon XP 2000+ PC with 256mb DDr RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, Conexant Internal Modem, and Radeon 9500 pro Graphics, and I have just installed RedHat 9 complete with every package on the 3 cds. Everything seemed to go well, except for the Graphics card. When I play a game , eg. Chromium, It plays unbelievably slow - like 1 frame per second. I have looked to see what is installed, and it says radeon 9700. I have checked ATis website, and the correct driver is not available for my version of xfree86, which is 4.3.0. Browsing through various forums, I have seen advice that suggests the ati firegl X1 drivers will work. I downloaded and installed these, then went through all the questions that arise when fglrxconfig is run. i then rebooted, and X11 wouldn't start, and it automatically reverted back to my original drivers. So... does anyone know how I can do this or what I may be doing wrong? As far as I know I followed all the instructions that came with the driver correctly.
Also I have downloaded and installed the conexant drivers from linuxant.com but still cannot get my modem to work. Any suggestions?
