Radeon 9000 X trouble

hi

i just upgraded my systems video card from radeon 7500 to radeon 9000, and when i boot up my linux system, X doesnt start on its own. so i start it manually, and it gives me error output. it says that it couldnt locate the device, and it says the fatal error is couldnt find screen. i installed the drivers, ran the config, and i got the same thing.

anyone?
