RADEON 7500 - Xfree 4.3.0
 

Hello gurus and folks,
I have a radeon 7500 and I'm using Fedora 1 with Xfree 4.3.0, and open GL is not so good. Tux will race, but ice will not render good, all the Gl screensavers are having Parkinson's disease etc... I think you got the picture.
Now how do I fix that? On ati.com there ain't no linux driver for radeon 7500.

There are many threads around on this. Check out the linux/ATI drivers section
on http://www.rage3d.com/. With the ATI driver, and an appropriate kernel,
properly configured, you should be able to get it to work. After doing some homework, if you still have problems, go for info overkill.

0) give your kernel version
1) post the output of lspci or post the contents of /proc/pci
2) post your entire /var/log/XFree86.0.log
3) post any entries /var/log/dmesg which contain AGP, agpgart,
fglrx

p.s. It took me 3 weeks to get my mobility 9600 M10 working. it works great. the ati pages made it seem as though this was impossible. good luck.

Since I am assuming the architecture of the M9, M10, and whatever the mobility 7500 is are relatively the same, --- and they use the same driver package--- i am hoping that you guys can at least give me a little info. I am running FC1 with a customized (beyond the default) kernel. agpgart is compiled in (not a module). and some other stuff. anyway, i got the ati driver working and everythign seems to be just fine, except that since its a laptop it gets hot. if i leave gkrellm up and play tux for a minute or two and exit and look at the cpu plot, there appears to have been no increase in system load. on the otherhand, with other OGL applications the system load goes up to 100% (quake3, GL screensavers, rss_glx... etc). I was just wondering what i could do about this to try and keep the system temp below 70C if i want to play quake. my XF86Config file is default from fglrxconfig because the ATI config stuff is so complicated like : my setup now is 0x00000201

If you guys have any ideas on how to get the system load down during these sorts of events, it would be much appreciated.

I am trying to get the fglrx (3.9.0) driver working on my laptop too, without success. I installed the RPM and modified the make file with the appropriate patches. It compiles ok but on make install the driver crashes with "device not found". here is the dmesg output:

Is there anything special I have to do with this driver and fedora core 2 to get this to work?

as far as i know FC2 uses a 2.6 kernel. since i dont have one of those i dont know much about it. i do know that the drivers on the ATi site are supposed to work with 2.6 but they dont claim that and say they will make a 2.6 driver in the future.

that site seems to have its stuff together about various aspects of the ATi drivers and has a 2.6 compiling section.

You won't get a Radeon 7500 working with the proprietary drivers. It's unsupported. If you manage to tweak it to work, let me know... I'd like to know how myself...
