Question Radeon 7000 Duel head and Debian. Keeps cloning...

Hi,

I've got a Radion 7000 (AGP dual head) and a couple of Fujujitsu CRT screens. Windoz will quite happily treat both as one big screen, but no matter what I do in Debian, it simply clones the existing screen. Can someone firstly confirm that this can be done with this graphics card and the drivers available for Linux?

I've tried the ATI drivers and the Radeon ones.
I've tried with and without the Screen n in the device section and in the Server Layout section
I've run the XF86Config reconfig package but it does not support dual heads
And now I've run out of ideas...

It makes no odds whether I make mention of my second screen in the XF86Config-4 file or not - it still remains a clone.

There is a lot of info out there about this and I've tried most things which I think are relevant, but there don't seem to be to many people with this problem...

Any thoughts or pointers very welcome! Here is my XF86Config-4 file and the log (I chopped some off the log cos it wouldn't post it all - lemme know if I chopped an important bit).

Cheers, G.

Back up your Xfree86 Config and try this one out.... It worked under both Redhat and Debian in the past. The card was an ATi 7500VE Dual Head video card.

I just tried that on a Radeon 7000 and got nothing, not even a clone of the first screen. What could I be doing wrong?

same problem

Hi, I'm having the same problem, tried tweaking the XF86config file many different ways, no results.. I installed the XF86Config from the previous post (changing the values for my PCI bus) and it still just clones the screen.

I notice there is a clone option for the radeon driver, but the default setting is off.. could this somehow be set to on? Any way to check?

I'll attach the xf86 log file:

Notice it says that xinerama is enabled, but says nothing about screen1

Right, got it working!

Added the monitorlayout line to the device config:

Section "Device"
# no known options
Identifier "Radeon 7500 QWfoo"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "ATI Industries"
BoardName "ATi Radeon 7500 QW"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Screen 0
Option "MonitorLayout" "CRT, CRT"
EndSection

Works perfectly!

Thanks!
