question regarding nvidia driver for kernel 2.6.16_1.2080_FC5

I installed the new nvidia drivers for kernel 2.6.16_1.2080_FC5 last night using the livna recommended yum command: yum install kmod-nvidia. After restarting my x session, all I saw was a black screen and cursor. Anyone else having the same issue? Work around available?
Thanks,
Jed

I have a similar problem

I have Slackware 10.2 with Nvidia driver installed and 2.6.15.5 kernel. I compiled new kernel 2.6.16.1 and now I can't install the nvidia driver again. Is there any incompatibility? I have the same settings.

andreas,

If you look on the Linux Drivers forum on the nvews.net site, you'll find a thread about compile errors with the latest NVIDIA-1.0-8178 drivers. This apparently occurs on some 2.6.15.x kernels, or greater. The thread is number 62021 on the Linux drivers forum.

Basically, you apply the first cumulative patch to the driver from NVIDIA.
Hope this helps.

No I didn't have that problem becuse I went to the nvidia site forum, found information on how to load the driver, and it worked. Amazing.
