Question on Nvidia geforce4 mx 440 APG video card and drivers.

I have just downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 and my VIA/s3g unichrome pro k8m800 APG in my Emachine T3104 freezes and I have to reboot to start Ubuntu over again(gets old). I can get a Nvideo Geforce4 mx440 APG for real cheap. When I put it in, will Ubuntu 10.10 have the drivers that will automatically install(I want it easy). Or if they don't, will Nvidia have them? If I get them from Nvidea, will they automatically install if I download them? One more question I see code in boxes in linux comment groups, do you copy and paste them to the terminal, is that what program you use and is that what is considered the command line. If you have two different boxes with code, do you enter the first box in terminal then push enter then put the second box of code in terminal and push enter again. Sorry for the simple questions, You might of guessed that I'm new to this. Ițll take any and all advice. One more question every time you update Ubuntu do you need different Video drivers?
Thank you
Jon

One of the entries in 'Menu' : System* > Propitiatory Drivers :
Will take care of Nvidia drivers.

Geforce 4 is old, and is the next to be unsupported.
( Geforce 2 and 3 : Unsupported.)

It'll be better to go for some old geforce 6 or 7.

Your card will be detected, any geforce : You don't have to choose version.

Menu : System > Administration > Hardware Drivers
( Or similar, depending on your language settings.
Ubuntu 10.04 has the above 'Hardware Drivers' here.)

..

So the 10.04 drivers will work in the 10.10 and your saying that the 10,04 drivers are in my 10.10 download I have on my computer, is that right ? I was told that the nvidia geforce 4 mx440 apg was not on the ubuntu 10.10 drivers list. Do you know anything about that?

Sorry, 10.04 was either an example, or could be a typo.

The Nvidia Geforce4 MX440 is still supported from Nvidia
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

So the 96.43.xx driver will work. Ubuntu 10.10 has 96.43.18 in Synaptic.
Please try it out : nvidia-glx-96 etc.

..

Geforce 2, 3 and 4 all use the 96.xx drivers.

BTW, I was trying to help jbander when I was still using the ubuntu forums, and last heard they were getting a 6600GT. I wonder if its arrived yet?
