I picked up an Ultra ata 100 Seagate 40gig hard drive. Problem is I'm giving my old K6-2 450 system. And it doesn't support Ultra ata 100. SO I was looking at getting an ata 100 controller card. Problem is that most (if not all) seem to be Ultra ata RAID controllers. Question I have is if I want to use one of these controllers as just an Ultra ata ide controller will it still need drivers installed or are those only for raid arrays. Not a linux newb but never dealt with raid hardware. This is my last upgrade before my step up to a new mobo/cpu/atx case upgrade in January.

I've been looking for an ATA card myself. Its difficult to find one without RAID. Most likely you will need to compile the module to support the controler.

The mobo in question is also a Shuttle hot-591p. Not finding much helpful info. Might end up waiting for my upgrade to use this drive.
