Question About SB Audigy2 - Windows vs. Linux

OK, I am dying to setup MythTV on a standalone Linux box however I want my setup to be a truly awesome entertainment center. I want to have it all running through a SB Audigy 2 with 7.1 surround sound throughout the room for both DVDs, TV Programs, MP3s, you name it. Yet I am concerned about whether or not the performance of the SB Audigy 2 card will be as good under Linux as it would with its native Windows software. If I run this card in a Linux environment, will I acheive the same performance and/or will I still be able to take advantage of all the features this card has to offer? Please let me know... I'd love to run Linux but I may be forced to use a Windows alternative if the quality is not as good as it could be. Thank you!!!

Some people have managed to get it to work, at least in 5.1; here is one example:

I can't imagine how sound quality from the card (which is controlled by hardware chips on the card) can be affected by software running in the computer, but it wouldn't cost much to try it and see for yourself. It's not as though you're forking out for a Windows licence or something like that.

Your Link Didn't Work

Getting it to work in 5.1 would be acceptable, though I could not view the link you posted... it stated that I didn't have permission to view that page even though I'm a registered user... anyone else have a link on how to do this or any suggestions? Thanks!
