Question about hardware upgrade

Kind of a noobie question, but I want to be sure of what I'm about to get into...

I'm considering upgrading mobo/cpu/memory/video card but want to keep my harddrive (with Linux and apps/data installed). Can I upgrade and not have to rebuild my kernal to support the new hardware? Or do I have to start fresh with reinstalling Linux and any/all other apps and data?

Thanks
Ed

I'm not sure I can answer the exact question, but I'd recommend making sure that the new hardware you upgrade to is also supported by your distro of Linux.

Memory shouldn't be a problem. You'll p'bly have to reinstall graphics drivers (remember to uninstall the old ones!).
Check your kernel config file...if the modules for the chipsets, etc on the new board are already compiled into the kernel, I don't think you should have any problems. Someone check me on that, though.

ur mobo will be auto in bios...but if u have any onboard features such as LAN/modem/sound these will have to be recompiled (or they maybe recognised by mandy 9) because( I presume they will be different to the mobo features u are currently using) if u r upgrading ur video card the same would also apply. Mandy 10 supports a lot more new hardware including some winmodems too. I suppose it really depends on what ur new mobo is :-)
