PVR on old laptop - complete newbie

I have an old laptop:
sony vaio, 496MHz, 128MB, 15GB.
And I also have a DLink T210 USB TV tuner.

I am hoping to gut the old computer and put some form of Linux on it (so it goes faster and I can play) but I also want to have the ability to connect the TV tuner and be able to record from TV/VCR etc.

Please could someone help me with what the possibilities are and what software I'd need ???

Bear in mind that i've never used Linux before and used to think an OS was a disease. I'm a bit better now but still think of me as your grandad

Thanks

Dave

That's a pretty small hard drive for recording video. You're going to run out of space quick. You will also have to find a linux driver for the card. I didn't see any in the hcl or in a quick google search. Xawtv and mythtv will both work for watching and recording tv if you get a driver.

Is that an analog or a digital TV tuner? Google does not seem to know about it.
Not sure what the digital TV scene is in NZ, if that is where you are.

Have you tried the tuner with Windows on the notebook? What are the system requirements for the USB tuner?

One possible problem with a notebook that old is that the USB ports may be the original standard, much slower than the current USB2.0. In that case I really doubt it could move the data through fast enough.
