PS2 mouse will not work w/ FC4 but touch pad does

I've just installed FC4 on an older Dell inspiron 7000. Install detected my touch pad but does not recognise the mouse. I think it is a Dell/Logitec wheel mouse. I have three drive caddys so I can switch systems and all is well with Win98 & XP. I can find how to change preferences of the mouse (touchpad) but not change hard ware. Where will it let me add/modify devices. It also did not detect my lucent Win modem or Megahz PCMCIA modem even though it did detect the PCMCIA 4in1 media card reader. Is there a "Control Pannel" I am over looking?

If Fedora Core 4 is using kernel version 2.6.x and PS/2 mouse support is compile as built-in. You will have to configure the kernel to set PS/2 mouse support to be compiled as a module. The reason why is because 2.6.x kernels does not detect PS/2 mouse automatically. By manually loading the module (psmouse) the kernel will detect the PS/2 mouse. The psmouse module have to be loaded by /etc/rc.local instead of /etc/modprobe.conf or /etc/modules.conf.

You can do a search for linmodem, but I doubt the modems will work. What I read external modems or serial modems are easier to configure.
