PS/2 mouse works sometimes in knoppix debian-like install

Here's the problem:
I installed knoppix with no auto hardware detection and it worked fine for the first bootup. However, when I restarted the computer, the mouse suddenly didn't work after it booted up. I did a console login and rebooted the computer once more and the mouse worked. Why is this? I'm running an IBM T23 and while bootup, I found a line before init that might be significant:

input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
input: PS/2 Generic Mouse on isa0060/serio1

These lines appear when my mouse works and only the top line appears when only my keyboard works. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Go to the /etc/rc.d/rc5/Smouse. And post the file similar to this.
