Proxim Harmony 802.11b not autodetected

Hi there,

I have been trying to use a Proxim Harmony 802.11b wireless card with MEPIS, without success. During booting, a beep is heard, and I am informed that the card within socket 0 is not supported. The name of the card is recognized. When I open the MEPIS System Center and look at Network Interfaces, I am informed "Wireless is: not found", "lo ip: 127.0.0.1", and "eth0 ip: down".

It seems that this card is supported under linux. I have the CD with the drivers. Many proxim cards are mentioned on the wlan list.

One person claims to have gotten it working within FreeBSD by adding the following to his pccard.conf file:

"PROXIM" "HARMONY 802.11b/LAN PC CARD"

config 0x1 "wi"?

insert /etc/pccard_ether $device start

remove /etc/pccard_ether $device stop

Has someone had this card autodetected on a distribution? From what I can find, it seems that it will be easiest to install a driver in Fedora (most documentation and testing).

Thanks for any help you can offer.

P.S. It seems that this model (8432) uses the Prism 2/2.5/3 chipset

don't know how to use driver

Thanks for your help.

I don't know which driver to use. I guess I would try the orinoco_cs and prism drivers. I have sent email to Proxim, and expect to get a response from them tomorrow. Even if I know which driver to use, hopefully it will include README and INSTALLATION files, as I don't know how to make use of the drivers. I did install a driver once for a lucent winmodem, but that came with step-by-step, very detailed instructions.
