If that machine floats your boat, then go ahead and splash the cash.
It is, in my opinion, total overkill for a Linux machine and far too expensive.
However, I do fully understand why your daughter, a gamer, would recommend it.
It will be like driving a Formula 1 car!

I think there's a big difference between Thinkpad Lenovos and non-Thinkpad Lenovos. The latter I have come across while shopping for a laptop recently, and they all were cheapest consumer cr*p.
I did buy a thinkpad in the end, installed Debian, and there's nothing to complain about, hard- or software.
On a general note:
Linux is ideal for slightly matured hardware.
Buy used, save money and resources.

The Dell certainly looks like a fine machine, and I presume it is in the price range you are looking for. You will appreciate the 8-core CPU when compiling programs.
Its RAM and storage will likely need upgrades. The power supply does not have extra capacity.
As with all new hardware, it may take time for the drivers to be included in your favorite distro.
