Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Promise tx2000 - Suse 9.2/9.3

I am trying to install suse and both the 9.2 and 9.3 version are showing an error during installation saying that my bios (presume the tx2000 bios) is reporting as "software raid" and advises that I need to check the suse portal as kernel 2.6 does not support this type of card/raid.

Checked the suse portal regarding this and the advise seems about as much use as a chocolate fire guard to me as I am not a very experienced user.

My issue is that I have a hardware card firstly because I have window installed using the array as well which needs a hardware raid controller, secondly the processor in this PC just ain't up to the job of running the software, apps etc and software raid.

To say that Linux is suppost to be getting more compatible with windows hardware this seems a bit strange as these cards worked in kernal 2.4 but the higher level 2.6 kernal seems to have gone back a step by now not supporting them and forcing users to use soft raid...... rant over just fed up of googling to try and solve this!!!!!!

My config is 40 GB hd with windows/linux installed on non raid. Storage area is 2 x 200GB hd (maxtor) set up as raid one (mirrored). Any help would be appreciated in getting round this problem to effectively allow the tx2000 card do what it was bought for and provide the raid function within suse 9.2/9.3 and avoid my precious PC CPU being given the overhead of running soft raid.

Many thanks for any help in advance,
paped1

I am working on same problem, except I have 2 80G drives I want to use as RAID1.
I am going to play around with the md tools first...
