Question Promise SX6000 - Extremely bad performance?

I am trying to install a Promise SuperTrak SX6000 on my debian linux system [2.4.24 kernel]. I am using the promise pti_st drivers.\

The problem is, I am experiencing extremely poor performance. I am talking < 10 MB/sec here.
hdparm -t shows 8-13 MB/Sec and copying a file from 1 partition to another never gets past 8 MB/Sec....

Anyone else got the same problems ot any hints to make it work properly?
