Promise SuperTrak SX6000

Hello. I am thinking about setting up a RAID-5 array with this (SuperTrak SX6000) controller from Promise. I was wondering if anyone here has had any success with it or not? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Distro: Slackware 10.0
kernel: 2.4.26

Thanks.

yeah i have a setup running perfectly under debian.

i found a few tutorials and got it up and running.

basicly the whole thing went along these lines.

1. set the controller bios to windows. if you dont you wont be able to flash it using a DOS bootdisk.

2. flash the bios with the newest version. use a DOS bootdisk with the flash util from promise.

3. set the bios to OTHER as it wont be reconized when set to either linux or windows for some obscure reason. the result will be a never ending beeping from the controller ones the OS starts booting.

4. get the driver source. there are two types. the regular driver and the i2o driver.

5. get a kernel source 2.4.19 or higher.

6. config and make the kernel with i2o support (core, PCI, block).

7. make the driver as a module.

8. install everything

9. add the new driver module to be loaded at boot.

10. partition and format arrays(s)

11. mount and start wasting diskspace

here's the guide i originally followed
http://pages.at/iwo/linux/sx6000_linux.txt

good luck
