Hello everybody!

Sad to say that we do not have any good news. As mentioned in my initial post we had problems to get the system running stable with four drives (no RAID; simply one systemdrive and three data drives). We then *had* to send the system to the customer, and did not revieve any error report from him. We also did not follow this issue. I think that we will use IDE instead of SATA in the near future.

Sorry folks - best wishes

As far as I know
kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k scsi_hostadapter, errno = 2
is (relatively) harmless. I always get it - even with the computer booting ok (Promise proprietory driver).

I have read about problems with 4 drives in libata (that is the collective name for the sata-raid patches inc. sata_promise.o). The driver is still beta. Using the very latest kernel version, with libata patches, may help.

I am not using the new GPL driver yet. I know how to set it up - sata_promise.o allows linux to see both drives separately, which allows you to use the drives as individual drives, or software raid them with md (Linux Software Raid). This should work fine on a pure linux box, but I dual-boot Windows, and I've *heard* that md will not/might not work on a Linux/Windows dual-boot system. Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, if there is an alternative (why wouldn't it work anyway)?

Thanks,

Erlend

PS: the guy who has been developing libata (which contains GPL drivers for many SATA RAID cards) is called Jeff Garzik. You probably should send a bug report if you find an error.
