Promise FastTrak S150 TX2plus SuSE Linux Driver??
Hi. Where I can find drivers for my Promise FastTrak S150 TX2plus
for Suse 9.0. On the web there are only drivers for 8.2. The main probelm is when I install Suse It doesn't see the hard drive. I have that controler on Riad 0 and SATA hard drives of 240GB. WHy th einstallation doesn't see the hard drive? Please help. |
Gee, this ones a real mystery. :) I'll take a crack at it though...
Possible because Linux doenst support SATA until kernel 2.6 is finished! There, problem solved. |
You are so wrong wiseguy ... Suse 9 installs the 2.4 kernel by default (the 2.6 kernel is for experimental purposes and not installed by default)...
Only modules available for the Promise Raid ide controllers are for 8.1 or 8.2 and there is no source code available to recompile one for Suse 9.0 specifically. If you do not know something, do not open your mouth to spread FUD amongst newbies....:tisk: |
So there is no way that I can install that linux on my computer?
|
Not directly on Sata drives as far as i am aware.
After you install sue 9 on an ide drives you will get your sata hdd's recognised but that's all really. Check amongst the modules in the suse dvd/cd to see if any of the modules is suitable for the promise controller (in order to load it befor einstallation by pressing F3) but I doubt it. If you manage to find a workaround, using the suse 9 included kernel, post it |
Ok. Thanks. Do you know any distro which supports SATA and raid 0?
|
These are limitations of the 2.4 kernel and the non-existence of drivers for the promise controller. The newest 2.4-21-99 kernel (as included in suse 9) supports sata hdd's allright but if you have no drivers for the promise it is not worth much.
You are not going to find any magic distro that will do this for you at the moment sorry. I have got an asus pc4800-e dlx with 2 sata drives on the intel ich5r and can't even install suse 9.0 in raid 0 usind the ide promise controller, so there is quite a dissatisfaction going around for the non-existence of drivers. it is a windows world for cutting edge hardware |
Well that's cool then. And why exactly, if SATA is supported, does it say in the changelog for 2.6 test 9? was it? That support for SATA was just added?

They only have binary drivers for earleir kernels, that cannot be used with the new distros/kernels. If they get a lot of complaining emails they may release the source code eventually. I know it is very frustrating:mad: |
I wrote them an e-mail but they said that don't have drivers for that and they think they won't make any for Suse 9.0. If there will be enough e-mails to them they mith make those drivers but in other way no.
|
This is hilarious as always... If those foolish people released the drivers in source form , we would not have to beg them for binary ones, every time a new kernel comes out....Begging people to allow you to make the product they sold you work, is beyond description and disbelief
Give us teh email will you? We might as well mail the same genius  |
Could someone make a driverdisk for suse 9 with this source code for promise cards or give a link to a howto maaking those suse driver disk, thx
Source code |
Here is their e-mail adress: support@promise.com.
|
Is this the source code for the Suse 9?
|
No it doesn't matter what distro its independent of that its even kernel independent. So if someone could compilit it under suse 9 and make a driver disk or a good howto, were all set. remember there need to be a mod named mod_scsi included others too, The readme says it.
Well I hope someone could help us, I like to dump XP, for games ii use 98se, :D  :D |
