Promise Fastrak 376 SATA Controller in SuSe 9.0
Hi all,
I bought a copy of Suse yesterday (9.0) and had a problem instaling it. It doesn't seem to recognize my Sata controller (Promise Fast Trak 376). The weird thing is I tested out Mandrake 9.2 the other which found it just fine and I was able to partition the drive and everything. I would much rather get SuSe up and running but a search of the net for over an hour has revealed very little. I have found promise drivers for the controller that are labeled SuSe8.0 and SuSe8.2. I tried using these during install by pressing F3 and providing a floppy to the SuSe installer and it in fact loaded the driver but still the drive does not get recognized and therefore cannot be partitioned. Anyone have any ideas for me? |
hopefully someone knows the answer to solving this but I was just at Compusa and decided to do a work-around. I got a 80gig hard drive for $50 (after $50 rebate) which seemed like a good offer. So what I am going to do is:
install windows xp on a 4gb partition off the new 80gb hard drive (this way grub sees the install and allows me to boot in) use the sata drive (which XP recognizes) for all WinXP data Use the remaining 76gb off the new hard drive for SuSe. Hopefully it works out. I will post back my results. |
I am having the same problem. I AM tossing my (paid) box of SUSE in the garbage and installing Mandrake 9.2 for AMD 64. THAT ONE will see my disks!

after a lot of tweaking I got SuSe running last night. Still so much to explore and tweak but it is running great and it's a very user friendly distro.

can any one post some howto for suse 9 with promise 376?
if i use the installer with the install disk from their website, i can see some crap about the non-gpl licence and unresolved synbols. The tip is to ask help @ vendor, but they do not give support! i also got some module that was non-gpl and wrong kernel. Don't know what to do!>??> tried mandrake 9,2 as well, but that sees 2 disks instead of 1 big partition (i am using mirror mode). so now my bootloader is fucked, windows won't start, and mandrake will not install bootloader, cause it says bios gives two ways to write to mbr : sda and sdb (or something) Can anyone help? i can just say: promise way sucks anyway till this point. highpoint advised (from what i read) thanks for any help |
