promise 376 RAID controller and Linux 2.6.0

promise 376 controller runs fine on my linux 2.4.23 compiled kernel on Fedora Core 1.
BUT, is there a way to make an initrd image to use the controller on a 2.6.0 kernel?
I've tried without any success.

I have a 378 working off of an initrd image of 2.4.22 using the promise "almost GPL" driver. make sure you get the right driver. One is for non-raid mode (pci_ultra) and the other is for raid mode (ft3xx)...

I think you probably want ft3xx.o

the problem is i can't compile the module for a 2.6 kernel!
