Programmable Remote Controls Revisited
Hi:
I added a new piece of equipment to my hi-fi system and, as happens every year or so, Logitech has altered things so that I can't download changes to my Harmony One Remote Control.
I successfully used Concordance / Congruity for several OS iterations, but those no longer seem to be supported.
The latest posting on this subject I could locate said to use Logitech's web facility after insuring that the Firefox "Ignore X-Frame-Options" was installed (apparently due to a bug in Logitech's site). I did this, and rebooted to make sure, but no luck. When attempting to update the remote control, the page just hangs with a periodic message flashing at the bottom that scoots by fast enough that I can't make it out; in any case, it seems that the remote control isn't detected.
The same sort of symptoms now occur when I use Logitech's latest Windows app running under Wine.
Is this just a lost cause? (I love the remote itself, as it can be programmed to do some quite elaborate procedures).
Does anyone know of a similar (non-Logitech) remote that isn't as Linux-hostile as Logitech's products are?
Thanks for any assistance (or even sympathy).

I have a 16 year old Dell with WinXP on it that I use when I need to update my Harmony. Updating isn't needed often, so the Dell doesn't get booted often, and not for long when it does.

Thanks for the response. As it turns out, I have an old Windows XP Virtual Machine available under Virtual Box, and I had used the Logitech Harmony Remote software on that some time ago, but had forgotten about it since it was a lot of trouble to run.
But - I ran it, and connected successfully with the Logitech site, and attempted to update the remote, but it still "hung" at 0% when trying to verify communications with the remote.
So, no luck ...
I looked on line to see if there are any programmable remotes that are Linux-friendly, and it doesn't seem that there are any.

I've never used a VM for anything but DOS, but imagine the VM may need to be configured to explicitly enable XP to use the USB connection to the Harmony.

Thanks for jogging my memory. I do/did have the extensions - including USB support - installed. What I forgot was to add my normal user log in to the vboxusers group after the last OS upgrade.
Sigh.
So I can use Windows XP in VirtualBox ok, but still can't figure out why I can't get the Wine (which used to work and was actually the way I programmed the Harmony the last few times) or Firefox (Logitech on-line) methods to work.
