processor upgrade question

ive searched all over the internet for this and found nothing. im pretty experienced with computers, but i dont know much about processors....i have a busted inspiron 5100 (water got in it and fried the video card, but other than that, its fine)....i was wondering if it would be possible to take the processor out of that (P4, 2.4 GHz, 533Mhz FSB) and put it in my girlfriend's inspiron 1100 (currently has a celeron 2.1 Ghz, 400Mhz fsb). i upgraded basically everything else that i could (dvd burner, RAM, extra battery, etc) and i wanted to know if the processor was compatible...the 5100 is useless to me--i was gonna salvage what i could get and sell what i replaced in the 1100. i know that the FSB is important somehow.....but i dont know the details and i dont wanna ruin my gf's computer if its not compatible.

if anyone has any knowledge they could share or knows of anywhere i could go to find out, it would be greatly appreciated! if you got any questions, feel free to ask....ill do my best to answer 'em

Chris

To my knowledge, this is very much impossible.

Celeron > Pentium > Athlon

None of these should be able to mix. In fact, I don't even think you can put a P4 in place of a P3.

Depends on the motherboard and the type of processor. I've a motherboard (Intel D845PEBT2) here that can take:
Quote:
P4 in mPGA-478 socket (400/533MHz fsb)
Celeron in mPGA-478 socket (400MHz fsb)
Check the specs of your motherboard or check with the manufacturer (Dell I guess)
