Processor Type

I'm compiling a kernel just for my laptop and I want to get the most optimized kernel I can (within reason of course.) Using "uname -m" reports my Athlon XP-M as a i686. While it may be i686 compatible, would I be better off selecting MK7 (Athlon/Duron)? Does an Athlon XP-M support all of the Athlon XP calls or will this cause trouble?
