Unhappy /proc/pci problems and Sound issues

Hello everyone. I am running Gentoo Linux on a Gateway solo 2500 laptop, and I am having problems mainly with my sound card. My sound card is a NeoMagic NMA2. It is not a well known one. Anyway, my main problem, is that my gentoo box doesn't list it in /proc/pci anywhere. It is as if my computer doesn't even know it is there. I seem to have sound when I am typing in the console, (system bell), but in KDE 3.2.1, I have no sound at all. Can anyone help me? Thank you for your time.

btw, when I type grep -i audio /proc/pci, nothing shows up.
