im using vector linux 5.0

the driver of my conexnant modem is getting loaded at /dev/ttySHSF0

when i do query modem in kppp

i get the following error .."unable to create modem lock file"

what is the solution

I'm not familiar with that distro but it may be a permissions problem. You may want to see where your distro puts the lock file and see if the permissions are correct. I ran into that once but I can't find the lock file anymore. It used to be in /var/lock but it is not there anymore. I upgraded KDE a week or so ago so they may have moved it. Sounds like Wal-Mart huh??

You may want to google for that error message. If you put it in quotes, you will get good matches and may run up on a fix too. www.google.com/linux is a good start.
