i install slack 11 on dell 2950 and i have the first surprise that it dont recognize its two ethernet gygabite cards broadcom netextreme2 and i cant install the drivers from the broadcom site although i pursue step by step the indications.
After that i recompile the new kernel 2.6.20 and now, i suppose it recognize the broadcom cards .the new big problem is that my screen is black,only black all the time.i suppose a new problem with the driver of video card ATI TEHNOLOGIES es1000, although when i recompile i put all the drivers for ATI video card . although my system seem be functional because i can login blind and run the reboot command, i dont see anything on screen .
can someone help me ?

Have you tried using the vesa driver ?..

step one is get the screen to display then worry about the ATI drivers if you really need em.. since it's a server you probably won't b running a GUI anyway so the vesa drivers would probably be sufficient..

You can always login to the server over the network to edit the xorg.conf file to change the driver..
