OK running this command
chmod 777 /dev/ds* /dev/sn* /dev/mix*
fixed the Line In but Master still doesn't work.
[edit]Line In is too quiet though even with it turned all the way up.

If I turn up the "Capture" volume (as well as Line In), it is loud enough (for some reason AC'97 needs to be turned up too for this to work), but then if I try to mute or change the volume of Line In (with Capture turned on) it starts sqealing. It also squeals when I change Headphone volume (both Headphone and Line In need to be at full volume or else it will squeal). And changing Bass and Treble makes it rumble and squeal, which doesn't happen with Capture off.
There must be a way to make all this work properly. Anybody??
