Problems with Red Hat 8 and the VIA AC 97 Audio Controller
Greetings everyone,
First, let me begin by saying that this is a totally new experience for me working with Linux. I'm sure when I become more and more used to using it, things will come much easier. Second, let me say thank you to all (I hope) that will respond to my question. Now, here's the question. In Red Hat 8, my onboard sound has been detected. According to System Settings - Soundcard Detection, my card shows up just fine. I have the VIA 8233 AC 97 Audio Controller (onboard component). While the card shows up and a driver is installed, no audio comes from the card. I tried changing to a headset to see if any audio would come from that as well. No go. I even went and downloaded a latest version of the driver for the unit (of course, I'm not sure if I installed it correctly....my windoze mentality still exists and I just double clicked on the file and it seemed to be doing something). However, there is still no audio being played back. I reseated all audio connections and cleaned all the connectors. I'm really stumped. I'm hoping someone here might have some other answers to try. Thanks.
