If the motherboard doesn't recognize any disk drive then how do you know that the first one is broken? You could try using an external ATA to USB adapter to check the disk drive. Here is one of many examples.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...908&CatId=3770

I use that device several times a month to check my customers' disk drives in my own notebook computer.

I'm thinking that the disk controller on the motherboard may have gone bad.

the first one is broken because you can hear the sound of tick tack tick tack and it is also repaired but eventually it is detected by my motherboard while the 2nd one is not but it is new and it is also detect by other motherboard not in ms-7043

Have you tried looking at the motherboard BIOS settings to see if there are restrictions on what kind of disk is recognized?

Otherwise, if your motherboard doesn't recognize a new disk then either the new disk is broken or the motherboard is broken.

I must be tired. I see no obvious reason why the MB would not detect the 7200.9 drive.

Are the jumper settings correct on the 7200.9 for how you have the drive installed in this computer? Are you swapping drives?
