Unhappy Problems with Logitech cordless Keyboard/Optical Mouse

I'm facing problems with my newly purchased Logitech cordless Keyboard/Optical Mouse - here' the complete story: I have a dual boot system with RedHat9/WinXP Professional and Intel 45GEBV2 motherboard. Initially the new logitech cordless keyboard as well as the mouse were working perfectly in both environments while the receiver was connected to the two PS/2 ports.

Then I tried to connect the receiver to the USB while running Linux and everything still worked fine (except for significant delay after loggin out till the display of login screen in X-Windows).

Then I reversed the receiver connection back to the PS/2 ports and a strange thing happened. It still works fine in Linux environment but the mouse pointer just refuses to move in XP!! Tried going back to the regular mouse and keyboard, but XP still refuses to detect the mouse. Even went for a complete XP reinstall but to no avail (had to go through the complete XP setup without the benefit of a mouse!!!) Looks like Windows now doesn't detect ANYTHING connected on the PS/2 mouse port! Could someone please explain what's going on? All devices are working perfectly in the Linux environment...

This problem might appear irrelavent to this forum - but I feel this is more of Hardware/BIOS/IRQ issue rather than windows XP problem. And I also believe that folks here are more knowledgable on hardware issues - so please don't flame me for posting this! Would appreciate any inputs on how to start troubleshooting this. Also please note that this problem would probably go away in XP environment if I use the USB connection but I haven't tested this out and nor do I want to use it this way.

Thanks and best regards.
