Problems with latest nVidia Drivers

I have both SUSE 9.2 and Ubuntu 5.10 installed on two separate hardrives in my machine. Ubuntu has nVidea driver ver. 7667 installed and SUSE has ver. 7676 installed. In both setups I have Twinview enabled and my screen stretched across 2 monitors. My graphics card is a GeForce 6600 GT.

In both installations I have occasional crashes where my screen goes all weird and displays a bunch of colorful stripes for a few seconds, before going black and then eventually dumping me back at the GDM login screen. The SUSE install seems to have this problem more often.

I also have a problem where my second monitor is extremely slow to display an image. I have a Dell Trinitron CRT as my primary monitor and an older CRT as a secondary and when I start X or even switch from a virtual console back to X the desktop is stretched like normal, but my second monitor stays black sometimes for up to a minute or more before it responds and displays the desktop. The second monitor is set for a lower resolution than the promary.

What could be causing this? Has anyone else had problems with the latest nvidia drivers?

Is there anything to specifically look at to try and troubleshoot these crashes?

Thank you.

I do not have an answer, but will bump your thread for you. :) FWIW, I have the same or a similar video card (MSI 6600GT), am running SUSE 10.0, and I think I am running the same driver in SUSE as you (7676), but I am not at the right machine to check at the moment. Anyway, the driver has so far worked flawlessly for 2D and 3D applications, although I am only using one monitor (admittedly this is a huge difference). Good luck toward solving your problem, though.
