Problems with HDA Intel and Mic Input on OpenSuse 10.2

Hi everyone!

I'm having problems getting the microphone to work.

OpenSuse 10.2

Card: HDA Intel
Chip: ALC880
IEC958

Well, in KMix the mic shows up as output device which is probably useful if I'd like to use surround sound. However, I don't get the Mic to work as input device (e.g. for skype, KRecord ...)

If I enable the mic output it actually forwards my voice straight to the speakers.

Sorry for the bad explanation, hope you can get something out of it anyway!

I appreciate your input

I have the same problem regardless of sound card (I've tried both the embedded audio and a Hercules Game Theater XP card). Neither line-in nor Microphone work for recording, and my user account is a member of the audio group. I have tried as root as well and get the same results.

This breaks VOIP applications and it breaks MythTV recording. :(

(nevermind, I found a combination of settings in alsamixer that fixed it)
