I have installed Mandrake 9 on a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop, with an ESS Maestro soundcard.
Mandrake identified the card correctly, but when KDE 3 attempts to start the sound server, I get the error
Quote:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such file or directory)

I googled around, and found a suggestion to use sndconfig to set up the card- however, after I log it to root (as su - ), I get a "command not found" error.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks
