Question Problems with ALSA

Wondering if I should of posted to this forum.... I installed asla 0.5.12 as per the instructions on the alsa-project.org site for the opl3-sa3 card. when I try to modprobe snd-card-oplsa2 I get:

/lib/modules/2.4.18/misc/snd-card-oplsa2.o: init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.18/misc/snd-card-oplsa2.o: Hint: insmod error can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.18/misc/snd-card-oplsa2.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.18/misc/snd-card-oplsa2.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18/misc/snd-card-oplsa2.o: insmod snd-card-opl3sa2 failed

I also get the same message when I add parameters that were mentioned in the INSTALL file in the alsa-driver-0.5.12a folder. How would I access the syslog file, and what other remedies are there?

I'm running Slackware 8.1 on a Toshiba Satelitte 440CDX.

Thanks,

Henry

There are no entries that match your sound card on the ALSA card matrix, can you do "lspci -vv" and post the info on your sound chip? (just the multimedia audio controller, we don't need the rest).

umm... there is nothing listed for soundcard, audio controller, or any of the sort @_@ All that popped up was Host bridge, VGA compatible controller, and USB controller. I got the opl3-sa3 from the specs on the Toshiba site. The link to the instruction I followed is http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc...module=opl3sa2

Ok, I found a link to a spec pdf at this page that says the sound chip is a Yamaha OPL3-SA3 so you seem to have the correct module identified, now try it with alsa-0.9.1.

still no luck -_-

is there a way to find out which irq's are used? I know that irq 5 is used by the network card.

Do "cat /proc/interrupts".

I think I found the problem. The opl3-sa3 chip is not being registered by the system, so according to the linux system on my laptop, there is no opl3-sa3 or any other sound card installed. Oh well, guess I'll just have to deal without the sound.
