Problems setting up networked printer

Hi all,

I am having problems setting up an HP Laserjet 5si as a networked printer using Mandrake 8.1 as a print and file server. Server is working fine and is configured properly as far as I can tell. Samba share is accessable from the other Windows pc's in the office and the server can access the internet thru a DSL/firewall. When I try to setup this 5si I get to the point of sending a test page, the data light flashes and the display reads "processing job" for about 10 seconds then just goes back to ready. I have used 2 different internal jetdirects and 1 external and they all do the same thing. It doesn't matter if I set them up to obtain ip from a dhcp server or set them with static ip. I have also used the external jetdirect to setup a 5L printer and that one works fine. I am able to ping the 5si and get a response. The 5si is on the Mandrake hardware compatability list. Am I missing something? Any idea's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Steve

The only time I ever had a problem of that sort, I had used the wrong driver, after checking your printer I found 4 different versions, sounds like the job is spooling but not printing, try a different driver

George,

I did try to use the Laserjet 5 driver instead of the 5si driver and had the same problem. I will try a different 5si driver and see what happens. Right now I'm in the process of installing Mandrake 8.2 to see if that makes any difference. Thanks.
