Problems booting with AHCI enabled on Dell XPS 210

When I have AHCI enabled in the BIOS on my Dell XPS210, I can't boot. I've tried Ubuntu 7.10, Kubuntu 8.04 alpha 3, Knoppix 5.1.1, and PC Linux OS 2007. All of them get to the initial screen where you can select to boot from the livecd, memtest, etc... but when booting it craps out.

This is what it says using Ubuntu 7.10:
Code:

Try changing your BIOS settings
ie
try changing SATA controllers if you have more than one on your motherboard
try disabling SATA and running as IDE
try running as legacy IDE and not native IDE

I have had similar probs. Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04 A4 seem good. No luck with Deb 4R2 or gOS 2B1.

Yes, that has been working, changing from AHCI to SATA on the motherboard. Kind of a pain though... I've been looking for a solution, not a workaround.
