problem with usb ports

I have posted on another forum about my wireless usb network adapter not working...and i was told to try my usb port with usb keyboard/mouse so i took off the ps/2 converter on my keyboard and plugged in the usb...but when it starts the GRUB loader, i can't use the arrow keys to choose the OS..so basically the usb doesn't work...When i view information in the KDE control center, it tells me that there are 2 usb ports, which is fine, but i have 4 usb ports. I've tried all usb ports and none of them work...if anybody can help me with this..then thanks in advance..i'm using redhat 9 by the way

Make sure in your bios that you enable USB support (meaning operating system 'OS' DOS/win95 etc) devices. At the particular time you are selecting your OS via grub, your keyboard has no 'OS' drivers installed, so you depend on the BIOS to provide 'basic' USB keyboard support. I can't be more specific, as different BIOS's implement it different ways, but you should see a selection somewhere in your bios. Don't forget in your BIOS to also use IRQ's for USB and VGA, and don't 'cache' video ram or system bios, and turn off PNP OS support.
