Problem with two hard drives
 
i have two hard disk one with windows xp ,Second with Fedora 6

I can boot with linux (single hard drisk) as well as xp
but i have lost of linux softwares in xp hardisks so i decide to configue my pc in such way
so i can access my xp files from linux.
i set both hard disk as master (BIOS),as i know

but twhen i try to boot from linux it gives me error :
kernal panic kill init something ...

Please guys help me out how to configure my harddrives as i DONT want to lose any files from any of hard disk

Mother board :ASUS m2npv-vm series
Hard drives : 160gb and 40 gb
Processor :amd 2.5 dual core 4800+
Ram :2GB

It sounds like you've re-cabled your drives differently than they were, which will change the device addresses. If so, then when you boot Linux, you'll have to add an override to point to the new root device. Then, once it's up, modify lilo/grub/etc.

i m not a hardware geek i m also new to linux,and now i m using my linux separately from windows :(
