Does Agnula require jack to be running for it to work?

You'll probably need to install jack and qtjackctl. Use qtjackctl to get the jack server running and then start Agnula.

Does Agnula require Jack?????

'Agnula' are the people who created 'Demudi'.
Demudi is a distro, not a program.
Demudi comes with Jack, qjackctrl, and a lot of other music programs, it is prepatched for latency, and in general is setup to be a musicians distro,
BUT, ALSA is what will see the sound device.
The version of ALSA is 1.0.5a and my edirol requires 1.0.7 or better.
Demudi is based on Debian so the standard upgrade path is apt-get, however Debian is very conservative so you can't upgrade past 1.0.6
I have googled till I'm black in the face, if you are not an EXPERT on linux you will not be able to upgrade ALSA,(please somebody tell me Im wrong :-)
The only avenue I can see is find a distro that already has ALSA 1.0.7 or later in it. I've tried Agnula demudi (Debian)
Dyne Bolic 1.3 (Debian)
M-distro (couldn't get it to run)
Dynebolic 1.4.1 is available but being Debian it will probably still be 1.0.5).

http://www.ferventsoftware.com/ (Studio to go) may work however they haven't replied to my email and I'm not paying up front to find it won't run my edirol either.

Sorry John,

My bad - when i read 'Agnula' for some reason I thought 'Ardour' (because in my twisted head, they sound the same).

That said, the new Release Candidate of DeMuDI seems to come with ALSA 1.0.8 - have a read http://download.agnula.org/1.2/1.2.1/README.PACKAGES

However, I think this RC doesn't have gnome, only fluxbox - but it *should* only take an 'apt-get install gnome' to get it installed.

Hi Daniel,
Agnula/Ardour, understandable.

I looked at your link, it does seem to have a late enough version of ALSA to run my edirol. Now I just have to wait for ADSL to arive (next week I hope).
If anyone is serious about recording, fluxbox is probably a better choice than Gnome simply on the merit of latency. Gnome would be nicer, but fluxbox will be quicker.

Cool - how was the gig at the Heritage Festival?

I grew up in Gatton, and my band (www.6across.com) played at 5pm - though I gave it a miss this year.

Small world hey!
