Problem with SATA HD

Hello,

I am trying to install CentOS 5 in my 64bit box with a Seagate 160GB SATA HD (Mobo is MSI-P965Neo with 2GB RAM).
(I got the same problem with Fedora 6 and Ubuntu 7.04, all for 64bits).

During the installation I got the following error:

Input/Output error reading on device /dev/hdg

I click cancel, and the intallation go on.

At the end, I reboot my PC and the linux didn't boot.

When I try to re-install it, it recognize that there is a previous version installed, meaning that it could write to the HD.

Any clues?

Thanks in advance,

Hatuey

Your problem is not your SATA harddisk, this is probably named: /dev/sda. or /dev/sdb if it's your second Sata component. So, the question would be, what is /dev/hdg.

How many IDE devices do you have ?

Thanks by your answer.

I have only one IDE device (a DVD burner) and only one SATA device (a Seagate HD).

Looking in the device and service loading during the linux DVDs boot, I saw that /dev/hdg was associated to the HD.
