This isn't the only thing you have to change in XF86Config. If I'm not wrong you have to disable the DRI module, so read carefully the section about XFree86 editing in the README file.
Take a look at the log file in /var/log/XFree86.0 (or something similar) and search for lines starting with EE.
Well, it seems to me that there isn't any error in the log and config files.
I have a NVIDIA Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB and it works perfectly. But now I'm at work so i cannot compare my config file with your and i don't remember all the options.
Try to add
Option "NoLogo" "on"
just after Driver "nvidia" in your config file.
The log file show that X is up and running. So maybe it isn't responsible for the hang. In order to dispel this doubt you would have to try another desktop manager or just telinit 4 as root.
try inserting this option after driver "nvidia" : Option "NvAGP" "1"
and if it don't work then try with a value of "0"
also just double check a couple of things in your BIOS, most importantly being Assign IRQ to AGP is set to enabled, and PNP Aware OS is disabled...
both mentioned might have slight wording differences, but you should be able to pick them out, cause they will be similiar..
